The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and the city of Fernley, Nevada, are battling over water usage on the Truckee River.
The tribe, the city, the federal government and other parties have been negotiating for several years. The tribe is advocating the construction of a pipeline to ensure the survival of Pyramid Lake, a lake located entirely within reservation boundaries.
But the city objects to the pipeline and wants to continue using the canal. Officials say seepage from the canal recharges their groundwater source.
