Muckleshoot Tribe reaches land, hunting rights deal

The Muckleshoot Tribe has reached a land and hunting rights deal with the city of Seattle.

The city will limit its use of water on the Cedar River, transfer 1,200 acres to the tribe and recognize the hunting rights of tribal members on the river. The city also will pay the tribe $18 million for wildlife research and to move forward with plans for a salmon hatchery.

The settlement comes in response to a lawsuit the tribe filed over the city's use of the river. The entire deal is worth $40 million, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.
