Indian group ends free-trade protests in Ecuador

Ecuador's most prominent Indian organization ended 11 days of protests against a free trade deal with the United States.

The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador organized blockades of major highways throughout the nation. The protest crippled traffic and left the country at a standstill.

The government started breaking up the roadblocks this week after declaring a state of emergency. The effort put a damper on a massive march that was planned in the capital of Quito.

Indian farmers oppose the free trade deal out of concern they will lose business. Final talks are taking place in Washington, D.C.
