Students at the Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge Reservation say teachers and administrators are degrading Lakota culture and religion.
The sophomore class led a protest to call attention to the firings of two Lakota culture teachers. The students said their tobacco ties have been confiscated and that a teacher in another class characterized Lakota history as mythology and made unfair comparisons to Christianity.
Red Cloud superintendent Bob Brave Heart said the school will look into the charges. But he said the teachers were fired for legitimate reasons.
