The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development agency has awarded $18.4 million in grants to tribes to offset the high cost of energy.

In Arizona, the Havasupai Tribe will use $2.2 million to improve its power distribution line and install a remote meter. The Tohono O'odham Nation plans to use $763,350 to extend electricity to remote communities.

The Navajo Nation, the largest tribe in the country, was awarded $1.9 million to install hybrid power stations at homes without electricity.
