The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is beginning to restore the burial grounds of Chief Sachem Uncas' family line.

The burial ground is located below a former Masonic Temple. The tribe purchased the site in 1999 for $1.1 million.

The Uncas cemetery was once 16 acres. But only about 3 acres is left for preservation.

As part of the project, the tribe is tearing down the temple. Artifacts and remains removed from the site will be reburied.
