The Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians are interested in acquiring a lighthouse that has just been decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The tribe has ancestral ties to the land where the Cape Arago lighthouse sits. The tribe wants to build a cultural center at the site, said Administrator Francis Somday II.
The tribe has asked the General Services Administration about acquiring the land. The tribe recently acquired a former military base that had been taken from them more than 150 years ago.
