The Hoopa Valley Tribe of California is getting support in its bid to join a county association board.
In December, the Humboldt County Association of Governments board of directors deadlocked 4-4 on allowing the tribe to join. Some questioned whether the tribe had a right to be involved and whether other tribes would have to be admitted.
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors has now voted to support the tribe. The county is sending a letter to the association, urging the board to vote again on the issue.
A special state law includes specific language qualifying the tribe to join the association.
