Terry Knight, a spiritual leader of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, gave the opening prayer for the Colorado General Assembly on Wednesday.
Knight delivered the prayer in the Ute language. Lt. Gov. Jane Norton said it was the first time an American Indian gave the opening-day prayer, The Cortez Journal reported.
"We�re all Americans and Coloradans,� he said, the paper reported.
