Tom Acevedo, the longtime chief of staff for the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, resigned abruptly on Thursday.
"He caught us all off guard," chairman Bruce "Two Dogs" Bozsum told The Harford Courant.
Acevedo is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana. He went to work for the Mohegans after leaving the National Indian Gaming Commission.
Tribal officials said they didn't know why Acevedo resigned. Bozsum the paper that "he mentioned he was making a change in his life."
