Debra C. Flute, a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe, has been named to the South Dakota Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Flute is currently working for the tribe's Dakota Nation Gaming Enterprise. She is a graduate of Penn State University and earned her law degree at University of North Dakota, where is currently working on a master's.

Flute was named to the board by Gov. Mike Rounds (R), who supported a bill to set aside a position on the board for a tribal member. The bill failed to pass but Rounds said it was important that Indians be represented.
