Navajo Nation close to deal over gas pipeline

The Navajo Nation is close to finalizing a deal to keep a natural gas pipeline on the reservation.

The tribe has been in negotiations with the El Paso Natural Gas Company. A right-of-way agreement between the two parties expired last year.

Talks had reached an impasse over money, with the tribe seeking more than El Paso was willing to pay. The company then asked the Interior Department to approve the right-of-way over the tribe's objections.

Since then, the Navajo Nation Council has proposed legislation for an agreement. Figures aren't being disclosed.
