Tribe sues to reclaim New Jersey reservation

The Unalachtigo Band of the Nanticoke-Lenni Lenape Nation filed a lawsuit in federal court last month, seeking the return of a 3,000-acre reservation.

The tribe claims the Brotherton Reservation was wrongfully stolen in 1801. The tribe says it will settle for two parcels of land and gaming rights. The tribe is not federally recognized.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma has expressed an interest in the reservation. A bill was subsequently introduced in Congress that would have ratified the 1801 transaction.
