Nevada tribe hit by fire still waiting on BIA

Members of the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe of Nevada who were hit by a fire three months ago are still waiting for the Bureau of Indian Affairs to provide assistance, The Reno Gazette Journal reports.

Twelve people sent applications to the BIA for social services after the August 29 fire that destroyed 3,000 acres, a home and 10 sheds. But the BIA said the Red Cross needs to investigate the applications.

The tribe has been meeting with state officials and members of Congress in hopes of getting help.
