The Lakota Country Times, the newest publication on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, recently celebrated its first anniversary.
The weekly newspaper debuted in October 2004. It was started by Amanda Takes War Bonnett, a former staffer at the Lakota Times/Indian Country Today, and Bat and Patty Pourier, business owners on the reservation.
Takes War Bonnett said the paper's focus is the local community.
