Ron Allen, the longtime chairman of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, is being awarded the 2005 Buffett Award for Indigenous Leadership.
Allen is being recognized for work to promote sovereignty, treaty rights and government accountability. He will receive $25,000 at a November 30 ceremony in Portland, Oregon .
Allen recently won re-election as treasurer of the National Congress of American Indians.
The Buffet Award is supported financially by the families of Howard and Peter Buffett. Past winners include Billy Frank Jr., the Nisqually treaty rights advocate.
