California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) signed into a law a bill that keeps information about sacred sites from being released to the public.
Most sacred site information isn't released to the public. But the information could be disclosed under a two-year old law that requires local governments to talk to tribes before building in sacred areas.
SB 922 [Link] now exempts those communications from the state's Public Records Act. Any information that tribes give to local governments will remain protected.
