Tonto Apache Tribe reaches new water deal

The Tonto Apache Tribe and the town of Payson, Arizona, have reached a new water deal that is up for approval by the town council.

The agreement has been six years in the making. It would replace one that expired in 1999.

Under the deal, the town will continue to provide water to the tribe for five more years. The tribe will be required to comply with the town's water conservation practices.

The tribal council has already approved the agreement. More water will be needed for the tribe's new casino and hotel.
