The president of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana wants to rename two towns on the reservation to better reflect the Cheyenne people.
Eugene Little Coyote said Lame Deer and Busby are named inappropriately. Lame Deer was named for an early white store owner, for example.
Lame Deer, the seat of the tribal government, has been traditionally known as Black Lodge. Busby has been known as White River.
Little Coyote will make a formal proposal to rename the towns at a summit next week.
