Miskito Tribe wants probe into 1980s violence

The Miskito Tribe is asking the Nicaragua government to investigate a wave of violence that resulted in the killings of 150 people during the 1980s.

Tribal leaders said Nicaragua's Sandinista army killed their people, destroyed crops and slaughtered livestock as part of a campaign to subdue the Miskitos, who wanted greater autonomy. They say no one has been brought to justice more than 20 years later.

The tribe asked the Permanent Human Rights Commission of Nicaragua to investigate the incidents.
