Leaders of the United Keetoowah Band said they might revoke Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith's membership in the tribe due to the Cherokee Nation's opposition to the UKB's trust land application.
Smith is enrolled in both the UKB and the Cherokee Nation. The UKB recently barred dual enrollments but rather than wait to see what Smith wants to do about it, council members said they might banish him.
The large Cherokee Nation has asserted authority over actions by the much smaller UKB.
