A 15-year-old Navajo student from New Mexico is one of 35 winners of an International Society of Poetry contest.
Josephine Pioche, who attends Shiprock High School, was awarded the Editors Choice Award For Outstanding Achievement in Poetry for her poem "Facing Your Fears." She wrote it after a falling out with a close friend. The two have since reconciled.
Pioche has been invited to attend the International Society of Poetry Symposium in Washington, D.C., in August. She is raising funds to pay her way for the trip.
