Closing an Army depot in Nevada would put Native Americans out of work, Walker River Paiute Tribe Chairwoman Laurie A. Thom said on Monday.

Thom spoke at a Base Closure and Realignment Commission hearing. She said about 6 percent of the Hawthorne Army Depot employees are Native American.

If the depot is closed, she said unemployment about tribal members would increase from 67 percent to about 76 percent.
