Cecelia Fire Thunder survives suspension complaint

The Oglala Sioux Tribe's council voted 10 to 5, with two abstentions, to dismiss a suspension complaint against Cecelia Fire Thunder, the tribe's first female president.

Fire Thunder was accused of mismanaging the Head Start program and being disrespectful to elders about a loan from another tribe. But supporters praised her for her strong leadership style.

Fire Thunder is running for president of the National Congress of American Indians. The election will be held at NCAI's annual conference in Tulsa later this year.
