A federal magistrate in Utah ordered a self-proclamed "medicine man" to remain in jail pending trial on charges of illegal possession and distribution of peyote.

James "Flaming Eagle" Mooney is accused of misrepresenting himself as an Indian in order to obtain peyote, a sacrament of the Native American Church. His wife, who was arrested last week but released yesterday, and a third man, who hasn't been arrested, also have been charged.

Mooney claims Seminole ancestry but is not a member of a federally recognized tribe.
