The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota will break ground this month on a $8 million elderly village that will serve as a nursing home and assisted living facility.
The 60-bed facility will provide a place for elderly tribal members to receive care closer to home. Previously, they had to go off the reservation for skilled nursing care.
The tribe is funding construction of the village with the help of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota and other federal and tribal sources. It will be completed in July 2006.
