Kaw Nation makes return to state bearing its name

The Kaw Nation of Oklahoma is making its return to Kansas, the state that the tribe once called its home.

The state was named after the tribe, also known as the Kanza. But the federal government forced the tribe to leave and move to Oklahoma in the late 1800s.

The tribe has since purchased more than 150 acres in its ancestral territory and established the Allegawaho Memorial Heritage Park there. The park is being dedicated on Sunday.
