Din� Citizens Against Ruining our Environment is organizing opposition to a proposed $2 billion coal-fired power plant on the Navajo Nation.

Dine CARE is hosting the Dooda Desert Rock Energy Plant Rally on Saturday in Shiprock, New Mexico. The group says the plant will pollute the environment and threaten the health of tribal members.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs held public hearings on the project. The Navajo Nation has sovereign authority over coal-fired power plant and falls under a new Environmental Protection Agency rule designed to reduce emissions from such plants.
