The Lac La Ronge First Nation of Saskatchewan has launched a new home ownership program that will allow tribal members, for the first time, to obtain private financing for homes on the reserve.
About 50 tribal members have already applied for loans through the Bank of Montreal.
The program was made possible by the bank and a $1.7-million federal grant.
The houses, once built, will be owned by tribal members but the land itself will remain in tribal ownership.
