W. Mark Felt, the former number two official at the FBI, was revealed on Tuesday as Deep Throat, the source that helped bring down the presidency of Richard Nixon.
The Washington Post confirmed Deep Throat's identity after the magazine Vanity Fair released an article naming Felt, 91, as the source. Felt gave crucial information to the paper that tied the break-in, and subsequent coverup, of the Democratic National Committee headquarters to the White House.
Felt has long denied his role but was urged by his family to come forward. In failing health, he lives in California.
