Scores of Kiowa tribal members denied chance to vote

More than 150 members of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma have been denied the right to vote in an upcoming election.

Anna Kaulaity, 89, and 151 others say they don't know why they have been deemed ineligible so they have filed a lawsuit against the tribe's election board. But Martha Koomsa Perez, a tribal official, said the plaintiffs didn't register to vote properly.

The election was to take place this month but the election board postponed it in light of questions surrounding the process. Three candidates for the business committee were taken off the ballot for allegedly not paying debts owed to the tribe.
