Two sheriff's deputies in Clearwater County, Minnesota, are on administrative leave after fatally shooting a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe in an incident on the reservation.
Franklin Brown, 21, died at the scene. He is said to have pulled a weapon on the deputies, who came to a home on the reservation with a search warrant for stolen guns. "They shot him upstairs, in the bed. It happened so fast, just boom, boom, boom," his mother Joan Warren told The Grand Forks Herald.
Brown was a "known violent offender in our county" the Mahnomen County sheriff told The Minneapolis Star Tribune. The sheriff said Brown had been charged as a juvenile in the tabbing of the son of former White Earth chairman Darrell "Chip" Wadena.
