Grant awarded for Indian legal services in South Dakota

The Dakota Plains Legal Services has been awarded a $50,000 grant to help Indians in South Dakota obtain free legal services.

The grant from the American College of Trial Lawyers will enable Indians who need legal aid to find information on the Internet. An estimated 55,000 tribal members could benefit.

Dakota Plains got its start on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation with the help of former Congressman and former state governor Bill Jankow, who started his legal career on the reservation. Dakota Plains now has offices on several reservations.
