The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut has voted to withdraw from the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) over testimony USET President Keller George recently gave on the influence of non-Indians in Indian gaming.
Mohegan leaders are upset that George mentioned their gaming deal in an unfavorable light. "No tribe should talk about another," Mohegan Chief Ralph Sturges, who didn't have a vote in the withdrawal, told The New London Day. "That's one thing you never do."
The tribal council voted 7-2 to quit USET but USET leaders hope the tribe will come back into the fold. USET is holding its semi-annual meeting on the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation in Connecticut in June.
