Saginaw Chippewa Tribe gave $25K to GOP tax group

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan gave $25,000 to Americans for Tax Reform, a Republican group that has been subpoenaed by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

The tribe made the donation at the urging of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Newsweek reports. The group then arranged for tribal leaders to meet with President Bush and GOP strategist Karl Rove at the White House.

The tax group, headed by conservative Republican Grover Norquist, is refusing to turn over its donor list to the Senate committee, claiming its contributors will be harassed.
