Blackfeet Nation lays spiritual leader to rest

The Blackfeet Nation of Montana laid George Kicking Woman, the tribe's spiritual elder who died on April 7 at the age of 92, to rest on Thursday.

Kicking Woman was the keeper of the sacred Thunder Pipe medicine bundle and the tribe's songs and ceremonies. The bundle, which was passed down through his wife's family, is believed to be more than 400 years old and is opened every spring to provide a blessing for the tribe.

Kicking Woman was recalled as a healer who went out of his way to help people. He was an avid athlete who was involved with boxing, basketball and track.
