A fire that burned for a week on the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Reservation in southern California is being blamed on a family dump that has run into environmental problems in the past.
State and county firefighters responded to the blaze last Monday and reported that it was under control on Tuesday. But it continued to smolder over the weekend, prompting complaints from nearby residents.
Dumps and other activity occurring on allotted land within the reservation have been blamed for numerous environmental problems. The tribe has outlawed dumps and trash burning.
