A teacher and his former student were killed in two separate car crashes on the Viejas Reservation
in California.
Fernando Garcia, 20, died in a head-on crash with a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle at about 10:40pm on Sunday night. Less than an hour later, Robert LaChappa, 12, suffered a broken neck k when his mother's car was rear-ended. He died yesterday morning.
Garcia was Robert's tutor at the Viejas Indian School. They were not tribal members but spent their entire lives on the reservation.
