The Northern Cheyenne Tribe was in federal court on Tuesday to seek an injunction against new coalbed methane development in Montana.
The tribe and an environmental group are worried about the impacts of drilling on the Tongue River, wildlife and plants.
The court heard testimony from tribal council member William Walks Along about the need to protect water from coalbed methane discharges.
The judge has already ruled that the Bureau of Land Management's study of drilling was inadequate. The tribe wants development halted until a new study is completed.
