Some Native corp shareholders oppose land swap

Some shareholders of Doyon Ltd., an Alaska Native regional corporation, are opposing a proposed land swap with the federal government.

The shareholders passed a non-binding advisory motion against the swap. One said he wants the corporation to focus on education instead.

Under the deal, Doyon would convey land it owns within the Yukon Flats Wildlife Refuge to the government. In exchange, the corporation would get land with oil and gas reserves and other drilling rights.
