Report suggests drop in salmon due to Native fishing

A government report is being accused of anti-Native bias for suggesting that extremely low runs of salmon are due, in part, to First Nation fishing.

Canada's Commons fisheries committee released a report on the Fraser River fishery in British Columbia. The report says the government failed to properly regulate the fishery out of fear of confrontation with Native fishermen.

Native fishermen clashed with non-Natives on the Fraser River last year after the government created a Native-only fishery.
