Wanda George Warren, the former executive director of the Catawba Nation of South Carolina, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to embezzling more than $24,000 from the tribe.
Warren was accused of double-billing the tribe for a trip she took to a United Nations indigenous conference in Switzerland. She admitted to received $29,754 for the trip and later sought $27,938 in reimbursement.
Warren faces up to five years in prison.
