A California group is being criticized for leaving the town of Dumfries, Virginia, with nearly $7,000 in unpaid bills after a Veterans Day powwow.
People associated with the Walk With the Warriors organization skipped out on a $3,650.39 hotel bill and incurred other expenses when they came to town last November. Local officials and Indians said the group failed to live up to its promises.
Mayor Melvin "Mel" Bray still wants to hold another Veterans Day powwow but local Indians plan to invite more East Coast tribes.
