At least two Minnesota tribes are discussing the possibility of importing prescription drugs from First Nations in Canada.
The Red Lake Band and the White Earth Band are interested in resurrecting inter-tribal trade. They could work with the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council in Manitoba, which operates its own pharmacy.
The idea is getting a boost from politicians in Minnesota who say tribal sovereignty could provide a legal basis to bring discount drugs from Canada into the United States. Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) and Rep. Gil Gutknecht (R) say they want to talk further.
