Leaders of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut plan to take a greater role in state politics.
Chairman Michael J. Thomas said the tribal council recently decided to become more involved in what is happening at the state level. A particular are of concern is how the communities nearest to the reservation are affected by tribal gaming.
The nearby Mohegan Tribe is also becoming more public, having recently endorsed a bill to send a greater portion of the state's tribal slot machine fund to affected communities.
