The Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation in Manitoba has won approval for an urban reserve in the city of Thompson.
The First Nation can now assume full jurisdiction of a downtown hotel it owns. The band plans to build a new office complex there.
Residents had voted against the urban reserve and some are calling for a second referendum. They fear the First Nation will build a casino.
