The Makah Nation of Washington has closed its winter troll fishery after taking a large catch that has been questioned by state officials.
Chairman Ben Johnson Jr. said the tribe always intended to close the fishery when the take approached 20,000. But state officials said they only expected the tribe to take 500 chinook.
The fishery was due to run until April 15. The tribe says the large catch won't impact others.
