The Southern Chiefs' Organization of Manitoba has launched a get out the vote program to encourage Natives to participate in the 2006 elections.
SCO will be putting up billboards and posters and running radio and newspaper ads. The campaign urges Native people to exercise their political power.
Although Natives are small percentage of Canada's population, they are majority in a number of ridings, or districts. They also make up significant portions of the population in the Western provinces.
The next election day in Canada is January 23, 2006.
