The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin is buying nearly 1,500 acres from the state for $9.1 million.
The land is part of the tribe's original reservation. It is currently used by the state as part of the Sanger B. Powers Correctional Center.
The tribe is purchasing the land around the prison. The state will continue to operate the prison and will lease the surrounding land from the tribe for at least 10 years.
The tribe hasn't said whether it will seek to have the land placed in trust.
