The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island received a $500,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The money will be used to build a new health center. The tribe has already raised $1 million towards construction of the $3.6 million building.
The 18,000 square-foot facility will be nearly four times the size of the existing health center. An estimated 2,700 Native Americans will be eligible for services.
